Change to Manslaughter law may affect charities
The Corporate Manslaughter and Homicide Act 2007 became effective on April 6th 2008 and makes convictions easier by removing the need to find an individual at fault for a fatal accident.
It allows courts to impose unlimited fines on negligent companies and organisations, although this affects incorporated companies only. The change could increase prosecutions tenfold.
Charities who organise bungee jumps, skydiving and other action sports will have to ensure that all training, equipment and health and safety proceedures are in place.
