APIL - Focus on education not litigation

There are yet again more concerns from the Conservatives over the abandonment of school trips for fear of being sued in a 'compensation culture.' Schools are thought to be too scared to take their pupils on educational trips due to the potential for accidents and parents jumping at the chance to take legal action.

The Tories are planning on protecting the teachers by only holding them liable in the case of an accident, if they showed 'reckless disregard' of risks, rather than just being negligent

However, the APIL say that a bringing in a new law is unnecessary and it is important to help people understand the difference between accident and negligence.

'Fears of litigation are unfounded,' says Martin Bare, the President of the Assoication of Personal Injury Lawyers. 'But there is undoubtedly confusion about negligance and personal injury ltitgation which is why we launched a guide on this very issue.'
